Examples are: Volunteering a day of work at one of the community bike rebuilding programs, doing a talk on sports and the skills you need in life to be successful at an inner city school, visiting a local children's hospital etc. Emerys expos and sales. Members can volunteer for staffing at Emerys in store sales or race site expo events to qualify for enhanced team benefits and in-store credits. Enthusiasm counts more than experience. Try it! Members are encouraged to mentor each other and network with each other for training. Training, networking and racing will be the focus of the "racing team" members. Non-racing club members are encouraged to come to training (rides, swims, runs, seminars) as they see fit for their level of conditioning. To arrange for rides for slower members (we think they are really cool too!!) please network with members to go with on their easier recovery rides and runs. Everyone needs to have easy days, and more company is better. For real beginners, contact one of our team coaches for tip sheets on how to start riding more effectively. Coaching. Brent Emery is the head coach of the team. The USCF, NORBA and TRI FED has coaching certifications available for others interested in getting coaching experience and adding value to the team. Bike Training: Brent coaches rides that start from Emerys Milwaukee location on Thursdays 6-8am and Saturdays 7-10am year 'round. If Brent is not there for a given day, the outdoor rides still go on. During the winter, training is indoors at Emerys Milwaukee location. Check the Emerys.com calendar before for indoor training info as Brent must be there to open up. He is unavailable only a few days per year for the indoor training. Bring your own trainer and towels for indoor riding. For outdoor rides, if you can ride at 17 mph for a 1 hour ride by yourself, you will be fast enough to keep up on our group rides. For indoor training, it does not matter, though these are formatted to get people in racing shape. Run and Swim Training : We are developing a network of where/ when members train together. We encourage team members to network for many other training opportunities together. Bicycle Training will follow traffic laws. If groups exceed 10 riders, two or more groups as necessary shall be separated to keep riders and traffic safe. There should be a real separation of these groups on the road. If a rider has a flat, someone from the ride should stay with them. If someone is dropped, someone should get them back onto the group, or ride/ run with them. Leave no-one behind! Meetings. Held quarterly at Emerys Milwaukee location. Club business should be kept short and to the point. Meetings will have the focus of including a talk by speakers on training subjects (e.g.: training techniques, nutrition, sports psychology, yoga etc.) Team meetings will be kept to a minimum. E-mail is effective for most communications these days. Annual bike race. Members are required to help plan and execute our team race annually. We do a small race to keep in good stead with the USCF. As practical, we can have other events only if manpower dictates.
